Random art fun

Some fun creations from JacksonPollock.org. If you haven't had a chance to check out this site you're missing out! It's addictive, mess-free art fun!

Logo for Living series

Here's a quick little illustration I made as a logo for a series in the Living section called "What nobody tells you about". The idea behind it is for readers to share from their experiences about certain topics like dieting, dating, breaking up, and whatever else our talented Living staff comes up with. I really liked "coloring outside of the lines".

License plate censorship illustration

This illustration is from about a month ago, but I thought it was interesting enough to share. It ran in the paper in black and white, but I like the color version much better. The article was about censoring what people are allowed to use as their vanity plates.

Black History Month Illustration

Here's the cover for our annual Black History Month tab. I wasn't sure if the details of watercolor  would reproduce well in the newspaper, but I ended up being pleased with the test print. I'm hoping to try out some more watercolor soon.

Abstract art page design

I'm secretly trying to get as much yellow as possible into our newspaper. And I had so much fun with this page, because I got to make a mess! Well, at least in the computer.... I wanted to find a way to make art approachable and give kids a way to create something that makes art where there are no right or wrong answers and lots of scribbling outside of the lines. I hope some of our readers actually use this exercise. While doing some research to put this page together I stumbled across an AWESOME site: JacksonPollock.org   Check it out. When you call up the site you'll have a blank canvas before you and with each click of your mouse the "paint" changes color. Depending on how you move your mouse the "paint" will drip accordingly. Have fun!

Oscar's page design

The paper holds a yearly Oscar's contest where our readers can try and guess who will win, and they can win a gift card to go to the movies. So here's my page design. I seem to be really into silhouettes lately, but I really like how this page came together.
Here's my very first "by-line"! This is an idea I've used for making boxes out of Christmas cards, but really it works for any holiday. I actually used one of the boxes I'd made to hold my sweetie DB's valentine (tickets to see the Blue Man Group at the Giant Center in Hershey!)

Women in business

This graphic was a way to illustrate the idea of women helping other women prompted by a story in Business about a new center for Women Entrepreneurs in York.

Page design for Web traffic

Brady's Super Bowl

Here's an illustration I created for our Super Bowl Sunday page. Brady looks so dreamy as he's anticipating his win. I guess things turned out a little differently then he expected.

27 Dresses

This is an illustration I created for a story about the new movie "27 Dresses." I love doing portraits, so it was really fun to try to capture the likeness of Kathryn Heigl. And of course I had to make her dress yellow!

Welcome to my world

Hi!
I've been looking for a way to share what I've been up to and the art I've been working on. I've never been very good at keeping up with my email. And there are so many people whom I'd like to share my artwork with, I thought a blog might be a good place to start. Take a look at art I've been creating for the York  Newspaper Co. where I work as a graphic artist and illustrator. And hopefully I'll soon be able to post art I've created for myself.
