WALL-E

Here's the basics of my movie page design for the latest animated film from Disney and Pixar. WALL-E. The film opens June 27th, and that's when my page is slated to run as well. I haven't been this excited about a page I've been working on in a while. Let me know what you think too.

Fairie Festival

The "Carrie Fairy" is back again! Well, actually this is the top of a page I'm designing about how to make your own fairy wings. The page is running this weekend because of the Fairie Festival at Spoutwood Farm in Glen Rock. I'll post the entire page design as soon as I get my wings photographed.

Operation Graphic

This graphic is about a player for the York Revolution our local baseball team. He's the type of guy that seems to be quite the jokester but he's suffered quite a few injuries in the past few seasons. One of our sports editors, Lyzz, had the idea of turning him into a version of the Operation board game. The results were mildly hilarious. Although half-way through I did have to put him on a diet to trim off some of the "love handles".

New Museum and Visitor Center in Gettysburg

This is the first of a series of pages we'll be doing about Gettysburg. The plan is to have four pages that will join together, in addition to this one. The pages will run each weekend in June leading up to the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg in July. This page shows highlights from the new visitor center. The floor plan took me quite a while to get it just right. But one exciting thing about this assignment: I got to travel to the center along with the reporter and photographer on this story. It was helpful to be able to see the space so that I could create the graphic a little better. And we also got kind of a "behind the scenes" look at the cyclorama painting. It is still in the process of be restored, and it was amazing to see the painting up close and also to see the crew working on it with huge lifts.

Teaching Kids about Saving

Here's an illustration to go along with an article about a class for parents to learn how to teach their kids about money.

Easter egg girlie girl

For our annual Easter craft page, I came  up with something a little bit different. The headline was "Eggs-press yourself"! The idea was a collaboration between myself and Sue, with the idea being personality stereotypes or high school clique clichés. I really like how each of the little egg outfits turned out. The pattern for the egg outfits can be printed out at www.flipsidepa.com, our website for the "Flipside" section of the York Daily Record. The outfits fit around the cardboard tube from a paper towel or toliet paper roll. And large or extra large eggs fit very nicely on the tube/outfit/egg stand. Happy Easter everyone!
